Getting to Know the Plot and Main Characters
Pragmata is a science fiction action-adventure game set in the near future, specifically at a lunar research station.
The story begins when humanity discovers "Lunam Ore" on the Moon, a material that leads to the development of "Lunafilament," a substance capable of replicating anything.
The lunar facility dedicated to Lunafilament research suddenly loses communication, triggering the start of an adventure.
The main protagonist, Hugh Williams, an astronaut and member of an investigation team, is sent to investigate the facility.
After a massive moonquake strikes, Hugh is separated from his team and becomes the sole survivor.
Amidst the chaos, Hugh is rescued by Diana, a mysterious android girl who is a "Pragmata" created using Lunafilament.
The two must work together to defeat an enemy AI called IDUS, or rogue AI, that controls the station and seeks a way back to Earth.
Hugh is portrayed as a nurturing figure, while Diana is a curious, charming, and naive android, creating a strong character dynamic in the game.
Early Reviews and Pragmata Gameplay Innovation
Early reviews for Pragmata have been overwhelmingly positive, describing it as a “unique sci-fi action-adventure game” and “Capcom’s next big franchise.”
Many consider it “one of the ten most anticipated games to be released on the Nintendo Switch 2.”
Some reviewers even praised Pragmata for feeling like “a game from the Xbox 360 era” in a positive sense, “untainted by the cynicism of post-2010s AAA game development.”
Hugh uses a variety of firearms and a jetpack to move and evade enemy attacks, while Diana has a crucial hacking ability to disable enemy defenses and reveal weak points for Hugh to attack.
This “hack-and-shoot” mechanic is the core of the game’s combat.
Hacking is done in real-time while aiming, involving inventive grid-based path puzzles.
Combat has been described as “intense shooting, creative hacking mechanics, and challenging combat,” “tense and satisfying,” and “inventive.”
