Second-Generation Steam Controller Highlight
The second-generation Steam Controller features an improved ergonomic design, promising optimal comfort during long Steam gaming sessions.
High performance is a key focus, supported by the advanced technology integrated within.
One key innovation is the use of next-generation magnetic thumbsticks that utilize TMR (Tunnel Magnetoresistance) technology.
Furthermore, the controller features full-size controls and two smaller, rectangular trackpads, similar to those found on the Steam Deck.
These trackpads offer responsive haptic feedback, enhancing control precision.Another interesting feature is the presence of grip buttons on the back of the controller, as well as a 6-axis gyro activated by grip sense.
This gyro not only adds a dimension to the controls but can also be used to mimic mouse functions, particularly useful for games that require cursor precision.
Unlike the first-generation Steam Controller, the 2026 Steam Controller now features two analog thumbsticks arranged horizontally below the face buttons.
The face buttons themselves use a standard ABXY layout, similar to the Steam Deck and Xbox controllers, making it easy for users to adapt.
There's also a Steam button in the center to turn on the controller and launch Steam in Big Picture Mode, as well as Back and Menu/Start buttons.
In addition to a small "puck" wireless transmitter that doubles as a magnetic charging dock for a fast and stable connection, the controller also supports Bluetooth and USB connections.
With a claimed battery life of at least 35 hours, gamers can play longer without worrying about running out of power.
Compatibility includes PC, Mac, Steam Deck, mobile phones, and tablets.
