The Controversial Escape from Orleans Parish Jail
Derrick Groves was part of a group of ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center on May 16, 2025.
They used electric hair clippers to cut through the cell wall behind the toilet, then concealed the hole by reinstalling the toilet.
They then crawled through the hole, scaled a barbed wire fence, and escaped through the loading dock.
Before escaping, the inmates even left a provocative message on the cell wall read, "To Easy LoL."
Three inmates—Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, and Dkenan Dennis—were arrested within hours. Gary Price was arrested on May 19, and Corey Boyd was apprehended the following day.
Groves was the last inmate of the group to be captured, after most of his associates were apprehended within weeks of the incident.
Authorities, including the FBI, which offered a reward of up to $50,000, suspected Groves received assistance from friends and family during his escape.
