"Minecraft Movie 2" Coming in 2027, Director and Star Return

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have officially confirmed the development of a sequel to “A Minecraft Movie” on October 9, 2025.

The release date for “Minecraft Movie 2” has been set for July 23, 2027, giving the production team ample time to perfect every detail.

To celebrate this news, the official social media accounts for “A Minecraft Movie” shared the first teaser poster, which features the caption “Building terrain. See you in theaters July 23, 2027.#Minecraft.”

Jared Hess, the successful director of the first film, is confirmed to be returning to direct “Minecraft Movie 2.”

Hess will also collaborate with Chris Galletta, one of the screenwriters of the previous film, to write the script for the sequel.

Jason Momoa, the actor who also starred in the first film as Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison, will be involved as one of the executive producers for “Minecraft Movie 2.”

He will be joined by other producers including Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, and Torfi Frans Ólafsson.
