Widespread Impact of YouTube Outages
Messages such as "An error occurred. Please try again later" or "Something went wrong" frequently appeared when trying to play videos.
Some users even saw the message "Connect to the Internet. You're offline, check your connection" even though their internet connection was stable.
Per DownDetector, 54% of the issues that users faced were with video and music streaming.
While the homepage, channels, and search feature still functioned, the core of the platform, video playback, was unavailable.
The YouTube team quickly responded to complaints flooding social media, particularly on Platform X (formerly Twitter).
Speculation on the Cause
The outage on October 15, 2025, was successfully resolved in approximately 90 minutes, starting at 4:00 PM PT and restored around 5:30 PM PT.
YouTube later confirmed that the issue had been resolved across all its services.
Regarding the exact cause, YouTube has not provided official details so far.
Despite claims that it could be a DDOS attack, YouTube has not said anything yet on the cause of the attack.
Similar outages in the past have often been caused by system updates that failed to run smoothly or excessive server load.
