Tremors from this seismic event were felt as far away as northern India, including Jammu, Srinagar, and parts of Ladakh.

This event caused panic among residents of Kashmir, many of whom ran out of their homes upon feeling the tremors.

Although the tremors were quite strong and lasted for several seconds, initial reports indicated no casualties or significant property damage.

The earthquake's epicenter, more than 200 kilometers deep, is believed to be a key factor in limiting the damage to the surface.

Details of the Hindu Kush Earthquake

The main earthquake was reported to have a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.

According to the National Seismological Center (NCS), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 220 kilometers below the Earth's surface, with its epicenter in the Hindu Kush region, 72 km southeast of the city of Fayzabad, Afghanistan.

The quake struck at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday evening at coordinates 36.49° North Latitude and 71.18° East Longitude, according to the NCS.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Seismological Center reported the earthquake's magnitude at 5.3 on the Richter scale.

The same earthquake's epicenter in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan was also reported to have a depth of approximately 234 kilometers by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Tremors in Kashmir

In Kashmir, residents in Srinagar, Jammu, and other major districts reported strong and prolonged shaking lasting several seconds, prompting many to rush out of their homes in panic.

Although Indian authorities confirmed there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, the intensity of the quake was severe enough to cause widespread concern.

However, there have been no reports of casualties or serious property damage in Kashmir so far.

Seismologists explain that the earthquake's depth of more than 200 kilometers played a significant role in mitigating the destructive impact on the ground.

Previous Earthquakes

The day before this main earthquake, on October 20, 2025, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake also struck the Kashmir-Xinjiang Border Region.

The earthquake struck at 9:56 a.m. local time at a moderate depth of 180 km, but was not reported to have been felt by residents.
