Will Tobey Maguire Return in Spider-Man 4? 'The Batman' Writer Develops Concept

As reported by Times of India, Tomlin had publicly expressed interest on the platform X (formerly Twitter) since July 2025 in writing a fourth chapter for Maguire's Spider-Man.

This development is a welcome boost for fans who have long awaited a continuation of Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker.

Tomlin's proposed concept features an older Peter Parker struggling to balance his roles as a husband and a father.

Mattson Tomlin has been the driving force behind the resurfacing rumors of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 4.

The seasoned screenwriter has consistently expressed his desire to bring the character back to life on the big screen.

Tomlin sees great potential in a more mature Peter Parker narrative.

In October 26, 2025, when asked by a fan about the project's progress, Tomlin said, "Slow and steady wins the race."

"There won't be anything to say about it for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things that have to go right that have nothing to do with me, but I haven't gotten a 'no' yet!"

Sam Raimi, the director of the original trilogy, also expressed his openness to directing another Spider-Man project after becoming involved with the multiverse concept.

Despite strong interest from Mattel Tomlin, Tobey Maguire, Sam Raimi, and Kirsten Dunst, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 4 project has yet to receive official approval from Sony Pictures.

The project faces numerous complex logistical and political hurdles, including rights negotiations, talent scheduling, and screenplay approval, involving multiple parties.

Parties involved in the decision-making process include Sony, Marvel Studios, Sam Raimi, and Tobey Maguire.

Tomlin himself said that the project is not yet in active development and requires perfect alignment between all parties before it can be considered further.
