Huntingdon Train Mass Stabbing Incident: Nine Victims Seriously Injured

The mass stabbing incident was first reported to Cambridgeshire Police at 19:39 GMT, and three minutes later, British Transport Police (BTP) received a similar report.

The stabbing happened on board a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) train, headcode 1Y90, a nine-car Class 800 train.

Ten people were injured in the incident, with nine suffering life-threatening injuries and one being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Several passengers reported seeing a man wielding a large knife randomly attacking passengers, leaving "blood everywhere," and people hiding in the bathrooms for protection from the attacker.

In response to the report, armed police from Cambridgeshire Police immediately boarded the train after it stopped at Huntingdon Station.

They managed to arrest two men suspected of involvement in the mass stabbing incident.

One of the suspects was reportedly subdued by officers using a Taser.

The East of England Ambulance Service deployed a large-scale response to Huntingdon Railway Station, including numerous ambulances, critical care teams, and three air ambulances.

Huntingdon Station was immediately closed to the public, all train lines in the surrounding area were halted, and armed police were deployed to secure the scene.

In a statement published early on Sunday morning, LNER Managing Director David Horne wrote that he was "deeply shocked and saddened by this serious incident" and thanked emergency services for their "quick and professional" response.

"We will continue to do everything we can to support our customers and colleagues during this difficult time," he said, reiterating that the wellbeing of everyone affected would remain his top priority

The investigation into this incident has been declared a "major incident" and is being supported by Counter-Terrorism Policing.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the incident in Huntingdon as "deeply concerning" and "horrific," and offered his condolences to all those affected.

Chief Superintendent Chris Casey of the East of England Ambulance Service added that this was a shocking incident and an urgent investigation was underway to establish the truth.

The Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Paul Bristow, also expressed concern, saying he had heard reports of "horrific scenes" on the train.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expressed her "deep sadness" at the stabbing and urged the public to avoid comment and speculation at this early stage of the investigation.

As a result of the incident, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) confirmed major disruption to its services, urging passengers to avoid travel.

All train lines on the LNER route were blocked to facilitate the investigation and emergency response, causing significant delays for commuters.
