NYC Marathon Results 2025: Benson Kipruto and Hellen Obiri Win Dramatic Races

This prestigious event featured intense competition across the city's five boroughs, culminating in the iconic finish line at Central Park.

Benson Kipruto of Kenya won the men's division with a historic photo finish, while his compatriot, Hellen Obiri, dominated the women's division, breaking a 22-year-old course record.

Runners from diverse backgrounds came together to conquer the 42.195-kilometer challenge.

Benson Kipruto of Kenya won the men's division of the 2025 New York City Marathon with a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 9 seconds.

Kipruto beat his compatriot, Alexander Mutiso, by just 0.03 seconds, making it the first men's race in the marathon's 56-year history to end so dramatically.

This victory adds to Kipruto's collection of major marathon titles, following wins in Boston, Chicago, and Tokyo.

Behind him, Albert Korir, also of Kenya, rounded out the top three with a time of 2:08:57.

The top American runner in the men's division was Joel Reichow, who finished sixth with a time of 2:09:56.

She led two other American runners in the top ten: Charles Hicks (2:09:59) and Joe Klecker (2:10:37), both making their marathon debuts.

Meanwhile, legendary marathoner Eliud Kipchoge made his TCS New York City Marathon debut and finished 17th in 2:14:36, earning an Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star medal.

The women's division of the 2025 New York City Marathon saw Kenyan Hellen Obiri dominate, winning with a fantastic time of 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 51 seconds.

This NYC Marathon result was particularly noteworthy because Obiri broke the 22-year-old course record.

The previous record, held by Margaret Okayo since 2003 with a time of 2:22:31, was now shaved off nearly three minutes by Obiri.

This was Obiri's second victory at the New York City Marathon, having also won the 2023 edition.

The 35-year-old demonstrated incredible endurance, overtaking Sharon Lokedi in the final mile of the race and maintaining a 5:05 per mile pace through Central Park.

Lokedi finished second with a time of 2:20:07, followed by Sheila Chepkirui in third with a time of 2:20:24, both also from Kenya.

For her record-breaking performance, Obiri earned an additional $50,000, bringing her total prize money to $150,000.

American Fiona O'Keeffe impressed, finishing fourth with a time of 2:22:49.

The wheelchair category also featured outstanding performances from athletes.

In the men's division, Marcel Hug of Switzerland once again demonstrated his dominance by winning his seventh title at the TCS New York City Marathon.

He finished the race in 1 hour, 30 minutes, and 16 seconds, extending his record for wins in this event.

The NYC Marathon results in this category further cement his place as a legend.

Meanwhile, in the women's wheelchair division, Susannah Scaroni of the United States successfully defended her title for the second consecutive year.

This was Scaroni's third overall victory at the New York City Marathon, with a time of 1 hour, 42 minutes, and 10 seconds.
