David Reed, who lives along Molly Pitcher Highway, said he and his wife heard the crash outside of their house.
"It sounded like an artillery shell going off in front of the house, like a big boom and crash sound," said Reed. "It got me out of bed.”
PennDOT said the road is closed in both directions as crews respond; it's unknown how long the road closure will last. Live traffic conditions can be found on PennDOT's 511PA.
Pennsylvania State Police and West End Fire and Rescue crews are on scene.
Molly Pitcher Highway between Wagner Road and Musser Road was closed. The road remained closed for several hours, according to PennDOT officials.
