How the Delhi Bomb Blasts Happened

A car bomb exploded on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Subhash Marg traffic signal, near Gate 1 of the Red Fort metro station.

This area is known as a busy commercial hub, adjacent to Lajpat Rai Market and the historic Red Fort. The incident occurred at approximately 6:50 PM IST, during heavy traffic.

The vehicle involved was a white Hyundai i20.

According to the Delhi Police, the car was moving slowly and stopped at a red light before exploding seconds later.

Home Minister Amit Shah specifically mentioned the type of vehicle that exploded.

It is estimated that three people were inside the Hyundai i20 at the time of the explosion.

The force of the explosion caused a fire that damaged several surrounding vehicles, including six cars, two e-rickshaws, and one autorickshaw, which were completely destroyed.

Impact and Victims of the Explosion

The blasts came hours after Jammu and Kashmir police seized nearly 3,000 kg of explosives from two residential buildings in Faridabad, Haryana.

The materials—including 350 kg of ammonium nitrate, a commonly used fertilizer that can be turned into a deadly bomb—were seized based on a tip-off from Adil Rather, a doctor arrested in J&K.

This tragedy claimed the lives of eight to nine people, with 19 to 24 injured.

The injured were immediately rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The condition of several victims was reported to be critical.

The impact of the explosion was not limited to fatalities and injuries, but also caused significant material damage.

In addition to burned vehicles, infrastructure around the scene was also damaged.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.

Investigation and Suspected Motive

Initial investigations indicate that the cause of the explosion was ammonium nitrate, indicating a very high intensity of the blast.

The Delhi Police have registered an FIR (First Information Report) under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act.

Investigators are also investigating a possible link between the blast and a terrorist plot foiled in Faridabad earlier that day, where a large cache of explosives was seized.

Furthermore, this incident occurred just hours after police dismantled a terror module spanning Haryana, UP, and J&K, seizing bomb-making materials and assault rifles.

The terror module is suspected to be linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

The owner of the Hyundai i20 that exploded has been arrested in Gurugram.

He claims to have sold the car to someone named Tariq from Pulwama.

After the bomb blasts, security measures across the capital and several states, including Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, have been significantly increased.

India's National Security Guard and the National Investigation Agency have been entrusted with the investigation into this case.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that security at all major stations has been tightened to prevent similar incidents
