The live-action The Legend of Zelda film is a major collaboration between Nintendo and Sony Pictures, with Nintendo holding over 50% of the financial stake.
This ambitious project is directed by Wes Ball, known for successful films like The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Ball set out to create a film that was "serious and cool, yet fun and whimsical," with touches of Hayao Miyazaki's aesthetic.
Producers include Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of The Legend of Zelda, and Avi Arad, former CEO of Marvel Studios.
The film's script was entrusted to Derek Connolly, the writer behind the successful Jurassic World.
Filming was chosen for Wellington, New Zealand, a familiar location for major fantasy films like The Lord of the Rings and Avatar.
