Manchester United 4-1 Wolverhampton: Can the Red Devils Compete at the Top of the Premier League?

Manchester United started the match with a clear attacking initiative, seeking to pressure Wolves' defense from the outset.

Their efforts paid off when Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock in the 25th minute and gave Ruben Amorim's side confidence, although Wolves refused to give up easily.

Towards the end of the first half, Wolverhampton Wanderers equalized through Jean-Ricner Bellegarde in the 45+2 minute.

However, Wolves were unable to maintain that momentum in the second half.

The second half saw a resurgence for Manchester United when Bryan Mbeumo restored the Red Devils' lead in the 51st minute with a precise finish from Diogo Dalot's cross.

Shortly after, Mason Mount extended the lead to 3-1 in the 62nd minute, after receiving a brilliant pass from Fernandes.

Bruno Fernandes capped the scoring with a penalty in the 82nd minute, after VAR confirmed a handball by Yerson Mosquera.

The emphatic 4-1 victory over Wolves marked Manchester United's fifth away unbeaten run in the Premier League this season.

Manager Ruben Amorim publicly praised his team's significant improvement in chance creation and goal-scoring effectiveness compared to the previous season.

"I think we started the game really well. We scored a goal, and we let Wolves get back into the game a little bit," Amorim told Sky Sports. 

"We suffered on the last play of the first half, but in the second half, we had good pace and good quality with our decisions. We finished the game off, and Wolves are in a difficult moment. It was a good evening.

Mason Mount, one of the goalscorers in this match, also emphasized that his team continues to show improvement and has a strong determination to continue winning.

"Attacking with freedom. I thought some of the combinations going forward were crisp, were sharp and that's what we can do," said Mount, who dispatched a sweet first-time volley from Fernandes's chipped ball into the area.

Even so, Manchester United still faces a challenge to maintain a top-flight position, since they are currently behind fifth-placed Chelsea.

Ruben Amorim's side have a week to prepare for their next match, which takes place on Monday at home to Bournemouth.

Wolverhampton Wanderers currently sit bottom of the Premier League table with just two points from 15 matches, 13 points adrift of safety and represents one of the club's worst starts to a Premier League season.

Although Wolves secured two crucial wins over Manchester United last season, the Red Devils' historical record shows their dominance at Molineux.

Manchester United have not lost two consecutive league games at Wolves' home ground in 45 years, a statistic that puts pressure on the hosts.

For Manchester United, this is a crucial step in keeping their hopes of staying at the top of the table alive, while for Wolves, it is a reflection of the uphill battle they have faced this season.
