Street Fighter Film Production and Adaptation Rights

Legendary Entertainment acquired the live-action film and television rights to the Street Fighter franchise from Capcom in April 2023.

Since then, the project has entered active development, with Capcom serving as a co-producer. The direct involvement of the game developer is expected to ensure fidelity to the source material.

Kitao Sakurai, best known for his work on "Bad Trip," is slated to direct the film, while Dalan Musson is responsible for the screenplay.

Danny and Michael Philippou were previously in talks to direct, but withdrew in June 2024.

Sakurai then joined the project in February 2025.

Casting began in May 2025, followed by principal photography, which took place from August to November 2025 in Australia.

The tight production schedule demonstrates the commitment to delivering the highest quality to audiences.

The film was originally scheduled for release on March 20, 2026, by Sony Pictures Releasing, but that date changed after Legendary's deal with Sony expired in November 2024.

Paramount Pictures then took over distribution rights in September 2025, setting a new release date of October 16, 2026.
