Welcome to Derry: Rumors and Plans for Season Two?

HBO has not yet announced whether it will make a second season of IT: Welcome to Derry.

However, Jason Fuchs confirmed to DECIDER that he, co-showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, Andy Muschietti, and Barbara Muschietti already have a rough plan for three seasons.

“If audiences and HBO decide that there’s an ability to keep telling these stories, we certainly have more stories in our brains,” Fuchs said.

“Andy and Barbara and Brad and myself had mapped out, sort of, a rough three-season plan in the context of writing, creating this show. So, we’ll see.”

Also, the series has shown very strong ratings, with its debut on HBO Max coming in third place behind The Last of Us and House of the Dragon.

Ratings have also reportedly "grown nearly 60% every week" since its debut, which strongly suggests a continuation.

The plan is based on Pennywise's three critical cycles: 1962 (season 1), 1935 (season 2), and 1908 (season 3).

Muschietti stated that there's a reason the story is told in reverse, allowing for a deeper exploration of Derry and Pennywise's history.

What Will the Season 2 Be?

If renewed, the second season of Welcome to Derry would be set in 1935.

This season would likely depict the events leading up to the Bradley Gang massacre, which marked the end of the IT feeding cycle at that time.

Meanwhile, if a third season is approved, the story would be set in 1908 and would likely focus on the Kitchener Ironworks fire, adding another layer to the city's dark history.

The season 1 finale revealed that Pennywise experiences time non-linearly, seeing the past, present, and future simultaneously.

Executive producer Jason Fuchs also stated that the series will not only reveal Pennywise's origins, but also the origins of the "cursed town" of Derry itself.

If production goes smoothly without any delays, the second season of Welcome to Derry could return in late 2027 or early 2028. Warner Bros. itself is reportedly "thrilled" with the results of the first season and "very interested" in making a second season.

“We certainly have ideas about other groups of young people who’ve stood up to the darkness of It, in terms of other characters,” Jason Fusch said.

“We’ve seen, obviously, glimpses of Ingrid Kersh in 1935 and in 1908, so there’s certainly room to revisit that character.”

Welcome to Derry Season One

It: Welcome to Derry is an American supernatural horror series that serves as a prequel, deepening the backstory of the town of Derry and the evil entity Pennywise.

The first season of the series premiered on HBO on October 26, 2025, with eight episodes concluding on December 14, 2025.

It was originally scheduled to premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2024.

Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as Pennywise, the terrifying clown and horror icon, and serves as executive producer.

The cast also includes Taylour Paige as Charlotte Hanlon, Jovan Adepo as Leroy Hanlon, Chris Chalk as Dick Hallorann, James Remar as General Shaw, and Stephen Rider as Hank Grogan, all of whom bring a new dimension to the story.

The first season is set in 1962, exactly 27 years before the events of It Chapter One. The story explores how the evil in Derry began, including Pennywise's mysterious origin story.

The series also delves into the town's dark history, drawing inspiration from the "interludes" in King's original novel, which are flashbacks and historical tragedies researched by a grown-up Mike Hanlon.

One of the key events focused on is the burning of the Black Spot, a nightclub founded and frequented by soldiers and Black residents, which was burned down by a white supremacist group.

The plot also involves the participation of Dick Hallorann from The Shining, whose psychic abilities are used by the military to locate a "weapon" buried in Derry, with the goal of capturing Pennywise and using it in the Cold War.
