Anthony Joshua Involved in Fatal Accident in Nigeria, Two Close Friends Die

The fatal accident involving Anthony Joshua happened at approximately 11 a.m. local time on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The specific location of the incident was reported to be near the Danco Gas Station, Sagamu Interchange, heading towards Ibadan.

The vehicle Anthony Joshua was traveling in, a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN, reportedly collided with a truck that was stopped at the side of the road.

Anthony Joshua was in the back seat of the vehicle when the collision occurred.

A total of five adult males were involved in the accident; two died on the spot, two others were uninjured, and Anthony Joshua and one other person sustained minor injuries.

Sina Ghami, a strength coach, and Kevin 'Lateef' Ayodele, a trainer at Joshua's camp, were confirmed as the fatalities.

The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria (FRSC) has begun a preliminary investigation to determine the exact cause of Anthony Joshua's accident.

Initial investigations indicate that the vehicle carrying Joshua may have been traveling over the permitted speed limit.

The vehicle is suspected to have lost control while attempting an overtaking maneuver and then collided with a truck that was stopped at the side of the road.

The FRSC emphasized that excessive speeding and improper overtaking are serious traffic violations.

Authorities state that these violations are the main causes of fatal accidents that frequently occur on Nigerian roads.

News of Anthony Joshua's accident immediately sparked a wave of grief and condolences from various parties.

Joshua's official spokesperson expressed deep sorrow for the deaths of Sina Ghami and Kevin 'Lateef' Ayodele, and requested privacy for the grieving family.

Matchroom Boxing, Joshua's promoter, also issued a statement confirming the deaths of the two team members and Joshua's stable condition.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu offered his condolences to Joshua and the victims' families, calling the incident a "tragic accident."

"I wished him a full and speedy recovery, and prayed with him. AJ assured me he is receiving the best possible care," Tinubu posted on social media.

Anthony Joshua, now 36, has strong ties to Nigeria as his parents are of British-Nigerian descent.

He even attended boarding school in Ikenne, Nigeria, before returning to England at the age of 12.

The accident occurred just over a week after Joshua defeated Jake Paul by sixth-round knockout in a boxing match in Miami on December 19, 2025.

Sina Ghami was Joshua's strength and conditioning coach for over a decade and co-founded Evolve Gym in London.

He is a qualified sports and exercise rehabilitation specialist and specializes in musculoskeletal injuries and corrective training, according to his website.

Ghami has extensive experience with elite athletes, having worked with the NFL, NBA, and Michigan State University.
