Actor Kiefer Sutherland Arrested in Hollywood: Allegedly Assaulting a Ride-Hail Driver

The incident happened on Monday morning, January 12, 2026, at 12:15 a.m. in the Hollywood area.

Kiefer Sutherland's arrest came after police responded to a report of an assault involving a ride-hail driver.

Police stated that a preliminary investigation indicated a physical assault and criminal threats made by the actor.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Sutherland, now 59, allegedly physically assaulted the driver and "made criminal threats against the victim" after entering the ride-hail vehicle.

The incident happened near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

“The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim) and made criminal threats toward the victim,” the LAPD said in a statement.

The incident involving Kiefer Sutherland began when Los Angeles police received a report of an assault.

According to the LAPD, Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of criminal threats, which is a violation of California Penal Code Section 422.

This section prohibits threats of death or serious bodily injury that cause the victim to be in reasonable and sustained fear.

Despite the assault, the ride-hail driver reportedly did not suffer serious injuries requiring medical attention at the scene.

Following his arrest, Kiefer Sutherland was released from jail a few hours later that morning on $50,000 bail.
