Oscar 2026: "One Battle After Another" Dominates the 98th Academy Awards, Here Are The Details

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The 98th Academy Awards, better known as the Oscar 2026, were successfully held on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, United States and broadcasted live on ABC and Hulu.

Comedian Conan O'Brien was once again trusted to host the star-studded awards night.

At the grand ceremony, Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another" emerged as the ultimate winner, taking home the Best Picture award and a total of six Oscars.

The evening also witnessed the introduction of a new category, Best Casting.

Paul Thomas Anderson's dark comedy action thriller, "One Battle After Another," secured the biggest win at the 98th Academy Awards.

The film not only won Best Picture but also took home five other awards, bringing its total to six.

Paul Thomas Anderson himself won Best Director for his work on the film.

Sean Penn was also awarded Best Supporting Actor for his captivating role in "One Battle After Another."

The film is adapted from Thomas Pynchon's novel "Vineland" and stars Leonardo DiCaprio.

"One Battle After Another" also won Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and the inaugural Best Casting category.

The film received 13 Oscar nominations, including for every lead actor.

While "One Battle After Another" dominated, Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" also made history by earning 16 nominations, making it the most-nominated film in Oscar history.

The film won four awards, including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan for his outstanding performance.

In addition, Ryan Coogler also took home the Best Original Screenplay trophy, while Ludwig Göransson won Best Original Score.

One of the most historic moments was Autumn Durald Arkapaw's win for Best Cinematography, became the first woman of color to win this award for her work on the vampire film "Sinners."

In the Best Actress category, Jessie Buckley wowed the jury with her performance as William Shakespeare's wife in "Hamnet."

Her emotional and profound performance was recognized as the best among the nominees.

Meanwhile, Amy Madigan won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role as a deranged witch in the horror film "Weapons."

The Best Animated Feature category was won by "KPop Demon Hunters," directed by Maggie Kang.

The film's original song, "Golden," also won the Best Original Song award.

For Best International Feature, Norway's "Sentimental Value" emerged victorious, demonstrating the growing recognition of the quality of global cinema.

The Best Production Design award went to Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau for their work on "Frankenstein." The same film also won Best Makeup and Hairstyling for Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel, and Cliona Furey.

"Mr. Nobody Against Putin" was recognized as Best Documentary Feature, and "Avatar: Fire and Ash" won Best Visual Effects.

The 98th Academy Awards marked the debut of a new category, Best Casting, bringing the total number of competitive categories to 24.

This is the first new Oscar category introduced since Best Animated Feature in 2001.

The inaugural win in this category went to Cassandra Kulukundis' "One Battle After Another."

Prior to the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) also announced the recipients of the Governors Awards.

Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise, and Wynn Thomas received Academy Honorary Awards for their outstanding contributions.

Meanwhile, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award was presented to Dolly Parton for her dedication to humanitarian work.

These honorary awards were presented at the 16th Governors Awards ceremony on November 16, 2025.
