Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Gina Gershon, a renowned veteran actress, has finally spoken out about one of the crucial decisions early in her career: turning down the lead role in the sequel to the iconic horror film, Friday the 13th Part 2.
The decision, made decades ago, was based on her discomfort with the nude scenes, which she considered exploitative and unnecessary.
This revelation came in a recent interview with Fox News Digital and is also detailed in her memoir, “AlphaPussy: How I Survived the Valley and Learned to Love My Boobs,” which was released on March 26, 2026.

At the time, the offer to be involved in the Friday the 13th franchise was a great opportunity for the aspiring young actress.
However, Gina Gershon felt the scene, which required her character to be topless before being killed, was “ridiculous” and “exploitative.”
The Controversial Role Offer in Friday the 13th
Gina Gershon was offered a prominent role in Friday the 13th Part 2, a highly anticipated sequel in the horror genre.
However, her excitement quickly vanished when she learned of the nudity requirement.
The scene specifically required her character to be topless just before her brutal death.
"I was offered a lead in that movie," Gershon told Fox News Digital. "And, of course, I was so excited to act in movies, but it definitely felt kind of exploitative to me and a little silly that right before she gets killed, her top has to come off."
For Gershon, this requirement felt completely irrelevant to the film's narrative and the character she would be portraying.
She considered nudity in this context not only unnecessary but also "exploitative" and "ridiculous."

Gina Gershon's View on Exploitation in Slasher Films
Actress Gina Gershon has openly stated that during that era, slasher films often featured female characters dying with their breasts exposed.
This phenomenon, she argued, was a demeaning form of exploitation.
In her memoir, she wrote, “My character was going to be killed with a stab to the heart, blood dripping down her breasts. It seemed so lame to me: exploitation 101.”
Gershon felt uninterested in participating in the formula that often combined sexuality with violence in early 1980s slasher films.
Family Support and Artistic Principles
Faced with this dilemma, Gina Gershon discussed it with her father.
His advice proved empowering: “It’s your body. If you’re comfortable with it, I’m comfortable with it.”
Gershon explained that he wasn't opposed to nudity in general, as he grew up watching European films, but only if it made sense for the character and story.
In the case of Friday the 13th Part 2, he felt the scene was "ridiculous" and inconsistent with his artistic principles.
