Rory McIlroy Wins the 2026 Masters Again, Making Glorious Golf History!

Rory McIlroy successfully defended his 2026 Masters title, making history as the fourth player to achieve back-to-back golf victories at this tournament.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - World-renowned golfer Rory McIlroy once again made his mark in golf history by winning the 2026 Masters Tournament.

This victory marked his second consecutive Masters title, a rare feat achieved at Augusta National Golf Club, Georgia, United States, from April 9-12, 2026.

“I can’t believe that I waited 17 years to get one green jacket, and I get two in a row,” McIlroy told CBS in Butler Cabin. “I think that all of my perseverance at this golf tournament over the years has really started to pay off.”

McIlroy now joins the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods on this elite list.

With a total score of 12-under par, McIlroy shows his dominance on the course, edging out his closest competitor, Scottie Scheffler, by one stroke.

This victory also increased his collection of major titles to six.

McIlroy's Dramatic Journey to a Second Green Jacket

“It’s nice to have that two-shot cushion instead of the one [shot] like I had last year,” McIlroy said.

“I looked at the [leader]board after I made the bogey on six, and I went back to 9 under at that point. And I said, ‘If I can get to 14 under, I think I’ve got a really good chance of winning this tournament.’

Rory McIlroy's victory at the 2026 Masters Tournament becomes his second consecutive green jacket.

Only three previous legends have achieved this feat: Jack Nicklaus in 1965-1966, Nick Faldo in 1989-1990, and Tiger Woods in 2001-2002.

The 90th edition of the Masters Tournament provides a stage for McIlroy to showcase his consistency and winning mentality.

With six major titles under his belt, the Northern Irishman continues to prove his worth as one of the best of the modern era.

Tough Competitors at a Prestigious Golf Event

“It was a tough weekend,” he said. “I did the bulk of my work on Thursday and Friday, ‌but just so happy to hang in there and get the job done.”

The final round of the 2026 Masters was not easy for Rory McIlroy.

He started the day slowly, even trailing his competitors by two shots early on.

Despite some tense moments, including a swerving tee shot on the 18th hole, McIlroy showed his class.

He secured a crucial par to secure his victory with a final score of 12-under par, cementing his dominance.

The Masters 2026 Fantastic Prize

In addition to the prestige, McIlroy also earned significant financial rewards.

McIlroy collected 750 FedExCup points and a prize check for $4.5 million out of a record-breaking $22.5 million prize pool, marking his sixth major championship victory and 30th PGA Tour title.

Second-place finishers will receive $2.43 million (£1.81 million), while third- and fourth-place finishers will also receive over a million dollars, with third-place receiving $1.53 million (£1.14 million) and fourth-place winning $1.08 million (£802,940).

Each player who fails to qualify will also receive $25,000 (£18,580), including leading contender Bryson DeChambeau.
