This exciting announcement was made by franchise creator Mel Brooks himself in a special video at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas.

The film promises both nostalgia and freshness, with the return of the original stars and a slew of new faces ready to enliven the galaxy.

Josh Greenbaum is directing, with the screenplay written by Josh Gad, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez.

• Dark Helmet's helmet is found in the sand, reminiscent of the opening scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
• The fight resembles a lightsaber (or Schwartz ring).
• Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet in the restroom, encountering a Na'vi creature from Avatar, and is seen wearing 3D glasses to stare at the Na'vi's crotch.
• Dark Helmet's updated appearance resembles Kylo Ren from the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
• A portal similar to Doctor Strange's portal in Avengers: Endgame.
