Russell Brand Admits Having Sex with a 16-Year-Old Woman

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Russell Brand, a British comedian and actor, has publicly admitted to having sex with a 16-year-old woman when he was 30.

This controversial confession comes amidst a series of sexual assault and rape allegations he is currently facing.

The confession came during an appearance on "The Megyn Kelly Show" on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, where Brand explained that the legal age for sex in Europe and the UK, where he is from, is 16.

Brand also stated that his past sexual behavior was "selfish" and that he failed to adequately consider how it affected others.

In the interview, Russell Brand explicitly admitted the details of his relationship with the 16-year-old, emphasizing that at 30, he was a very different person, younger, and "30 years immature."

He argued that the act, while legal in the UK and Europe, had questionable moral implications.

Brand has not hesitated to call his past sexual behavior "selfish" and lacking consideration for its impact on others.

“Thank you, Megyn Kelly, for giving me the grace to address, in particular, your anger, which is entirely legitimate and recognizable,” he said.

He admitted that his celebrity status afforded him the opportunity for "unrelenting consent," which led him to become a hedonist and a cheater, as well as an "exploiter of women," and that this was wrong.

“And the plain fact of it is that in Europe and in the United Kingdom, where I’m from, the age of consent is 16, and I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30, but when I was 30, I was a very different person. I was a lot younger, and I was an immature 30-year-old.”

Russell Brand's admission comes just weeks before his upcoming rape trial, adding to the complexity of his legal case.

This comes after a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4's Dispatches in September 2023 reported that four women accused Brand of sexual harassment and predatory behavior between 2006 and 2013.

One of the most prominent claims from the investigation was that Brand had a three-month relationship with a 16-year-old girl while he was a BBC radio presenter in his 30s.

The woman, known as "Alice," said Brand called her "that boy" and gave her a script to deceive her parents.

However, in April 2025, he was charged with multiple counts of rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault relating to four separate women in incidents that allegedly happened between 1999 and 2005.

In December 2025, two additional counts of rape and sexual assault were filed against him relating to two other women in incidents that allegedly occurred in 2009.

In total, Brand faces seven serious charges.

Russell Brand has pleaded not guilty to all seven charges.

The brand was originally scheduled to go on trial at London's Southwark Crown Court starting June 16, but last month, the trial was postponed to October 12.

“These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies,” Brand said at the time.

“And as I’ve written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous. Now, during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely always consensual.
