The Boys Season 5 Ends: What Will Happen to the Vought Cinematic Universe?

The Boys Season 5 has officially concluded with an epic showdown between Homelander and Butcher. What's next for the franchise?

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The satirical superhero series, The Boys, has officially concluded its shocking and violent run with the premiere of its fifth season.

Showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that this season concludes the main story arc he has been planning for five years.

The final season delivered a brutal and emotional climax, answering numerous hanging questions and opening a new chapter for the Vought universe.

Premiering on Amazon Prime Video on April 8, 2026, the first two episodes immediately captured the attention of a global audience.

The remaining eight episodes were released weekly, with the highly anticipated finale, titled "Blood and Bone," airing on May 20, 2026.

The Boys' fifth season not only closed an era but also cemented its place as one of the most influential series in the superhero genre.

The Boys Season 5 Epic Ending

Production for the fifth season of The Boys has been intense, with principal photography beginning on November 25, 2024, and wrapping on July 1, 2025.

Eric Kripke announced in late March 2025 that filming had reached the halfway point, and post-production wrapped on March 31, 2026.

The season's main plot centers on The Boys and Billy Butcher's efforts to end Homelander's increasingly tyrannical reign.

Billy Butcher possesses a deadly virus capable of killing all Supes, while Homelander threatens to become immortal with the discovery of the first version of Compound V (V1).

The season also features the return of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in a recurring role, with Kripke stating that his character will have a significant role, particularly in exploring the father-son relationship between him and Homelander.

Additionally, Kimiko gains Force-absorbing abilities, similar to Soldier Boy, thanks to Frenchie, which proves key in the final battle.

Tragic Fates and New Hope for Characters

The fifth season finale brought mixed fates for the characters.

Homelander was ultimately defeated and killed by Butcher after Kimiko incapacitated him.

However, that victory came at a cost.

Billy Butcher, after defeating Homelander and discovering his dog, Terror, dead, attempted to unleash a Supe-killing virus on Vought Tower.

He was stopped and killed by Hughie in an emotional moment.

Hughie Campbell and Starlight chose a quieter life, with Starlight pregnant and planning to name their child Robin.

Hughie turned down a job offer at the Department of Supe Affairs, choosing to open an audiovisual store with Annie.

Mother's Milk (M.M.) remarried and adopted Ryan, Homelander's son.

Kimiko traveled to France with her pet dog, seeking peace after the loss of Frenchie, who died in the penultimate episode, which marked a low point for the characters.

Ashley was removed from her position, while Stan Edgar returned to the role of CEO of Vought.

Oh Father and The Deep were also killed in the final battle.

Vought Cinematic Universe Expansion: Upcoming Spin-offs

Although the main series of The Boys has ended, the franchise will continue to grow with several confirmed spin-off projects.

Prime Video is committed to expanding the "Vought Cinematic Universe" with new stories.

  • Vought Rising: This is a prequel series set in the 1950s, exploring the origins of Vought International as a twisted murder mystery. Jensen Ackles will return as Soldier Boy, and Aya Cash will reprise her role as Clara Vought (Stormfront). The series is expected to premiere in 2027.
  • The Boys Mexico: This project, still in development, is set after the events of The Boys and will feature a Mexican lead. Diego Luna and Gael GarcĂa Bernal are executive producers. Plot details are scarce, and no release date has been set.
  • Gen V: This college-set spin-off will conclude with its second season and will not return for a third. However, executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg stated that characters from Gen V will continue to appear in future franchise projects.
