The official teaser trailer for "Shrek 5" was released on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, marking the return of the beloved green ogre to the big screen.

The first trailer features the return of the iconic voice cast, including Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Fiona.

Shrek, Fiona, their children, and Donkey are seen embarking on a journey to the magical city of "Further Further Away."

The teaser also introduces new characters, including Shrek and Fiona's daughter, Felicia, who will be voiced by Zendaya, although Felicia is not clearly visible in the trailer.

The opening teaser even pays homage to William Steig's original book with its distinctive illustrations before transitioning to more modern footage.

The "Shrek 5" teaser trailer not only brings back the main characters but also the signature humor that has become a hallmark of the franchise.

One hilarious scene shows Shrek and his family, along with Donkey, ending up in jail.

In this situation, Donkey tries to cheer them up by singing "Baby Come Back" and "Roxanne."

Another comedic element is seen in the joke about the Gingerbread Man being depicted as "caked up" and "twerking."

There's also a spoof of a creepy snowman character reminiscent of Olaf from Frozen, who asks, "Do you want to date a snowman?"

The trailer also features a snippet of Smash Mouth's popular song "All Star," adding to the nostalgia for fans.

In addition to the main trio of Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, beloved characters like the Gingerbread Man are also confirmed to return.

Shrek and Fiona's sons, Fergus and Farkle, will be voiced by Saturday Night Live's Marcello Hernandez and Skyler Gisondo, respectively, completing the ogre family.

The film, tentatively titled "Shrek 5," has undergone several release schedule changes.

It was originally slated for July 1, 2026, then pushed back to December 23, 2026.

However, the final confirmed release date is June 30, 2027.

Universal Pictures describes the film's plot as a "thrilling and magical new comedy adventure," although full details have not yet been revealed.

Behind the scenes, Walt Dohrn has been tapped to direct "Shrek 5."

Dohrn has a long track record with the Shrek franchise and previously directed "Trolls Band Together."

He will be joined by Conrad Vernon, who co-directed "Shrek 2," and Brad Ableson, one of the directors of "Minions: The Rise of Gru."Gina Shay, who previously produced "Shrek Forever After," will serve as producer.

Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri will also produce the film.

Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy hinted at a spin-off project centered around Donkey, further fueling fan excitement for the expansion of the Shrek universe.
