Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Meta Platforms has announced the phasing out of support for its virtual reality (VR) platform Meta Horizon Worlds on Quest devices, ending entirely on June 15, 2026.

This decision marks a significant strategic shift for Meta, which will now shift Horizon Worlds' focus to a mobile-only experience.

This announcement is part of the "renewed focus on VR and Horizon" that Meta announced earlier in 2026.

This cessation of support will impact VR users who will no longer be able to access Horizon Worlds through their headsets after the specified date.

However, Meta emphasized its commitment to continuing to invest in improving the overall Quest VR experience, with updates to features like the Surface Keyboard and Touchpad, as well as a modernized Navigator interface.

Meta is taking this step with the goal of allowing the Quest VR platform and Horizon Worlds to grow with greater focus separately.

The company plans to "redouble its focus on the VR developer ecosystem" while positioning Horizon Worlds as a fully mobile-centric platform, building on the positive momentum seen from previous experiments.

Meta's Reasons for Ending VR Support

Meta stated that the separation of the Quest and Horizon Worlds VR platforms was done so that each could develop with a clearer and more focused focus.

The company wants Horizon Worlds to be a mobile-only experience, a strategy that has been piloted since 2025 with promising results.

This decision is part of Meta's renewed focus on VR and Horizon, announced in early 2026.

By separating the two platforms, Meta hopes to more effectively develop the potential of each.

Meta also emphasized that it will "redouble its focus on the VR developer ecosystem," demonstrating its continued commitment to the development of virtual reality technology despite the changes to Horizon Worlds.

Meta Horizon Worlds Phased Out Schedule

The process of ending support for Horizon Worlds on Quest VR devices will occur gradually throughout 2026, with several key stages:

  • March 24, 2026: The Hyperscape capture viewing functionality will be removed from Horizon Worlds. Existing captures will still be viewable in the Hyperscape Capture (Beta) app and the companion Preview app, but sharing, inviting, and experiencing Hyperscape with others will no longer be supported.
  • March 31, 2026: Horizon Worlds and Events will no longer appear in the Quest Store. Official Meta worlds such as Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay will no longer be available in VR. Horizon-specific benefits for Meta Horizon Plus, including Meta Credits, Digital Outfits, Avatars, and In-World Purchases, will be removed from the subscription.
  • June 15, 2026: The Horizon Worlds app will be removed from Quest, and Worlds will no longer be available in VR. After this date, users can access mobile-optimized worlds through the Meta Horizon mobile app. Users will no longer be able to build, publish, or update VR worlds.

Meta's Future of Horizon Worlds and VR Commitment

Despite being discontinued from Quest VR devices, Horizon Worlds will continue to operate as a mobile-only experience.

Meta has been experimenting with Worlds as a mobile platform since 2025 and has seen positive momentum, which was a key driver of the decision to focus entirely on mobile.

For VR users, this means they will no longer be able to access Horizon Worlds through their headsets after June 15, 2026.

However, Meta reiterated its commitment to continuing to invest in improving the Quest VR experience.

Feature updates such as the Surface Keyboard and Touchpad, as well as a modernized Navigator interface, will continue to be part of Meta's efforts to enrich its VR ecosystem.
