Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Tiger Woods, a Golf legend,  was arrested on Friday afternoon, March 27, 2026, on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) after being involved in a single-vehicle accident near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida.

The accident happened when Woods was driving his Land Rover and collided with the rear of a truck pulling a trailer, causing the vehicle to roll onto its side.

Woods told officers that he was looking at his cell phone and changing the radio station shortly before the accident, without realizing the vehicle in front of him was slowing down.

This arrest is not Tiger Woods' first for DUI, as he was arrested in 2017.

Chronology of the Incident and Tiger Woods' Arrest

The incident that led to Tiger Woods' arrest occurred on Friday afternoon, March 27, 2026, near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida.

Woods was driving his Land Rover when he attempted to overtake a truck pulling a trailer at high speed, but then collided with the rear of the truck.

Woods' vehicle then rolled onto its side, but Woods reportedly suffered no physical injuries in the accident.

Officers arriving at the scene observed several signs of impairment in Tiger Woods.

He was sweating profusely, his movements were slow, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and his pupils were dilated.

Woods was also seen limping and stumbling to the right, and he was even wearing sunglasses, which officers later asked him to remove.

In his statement to officers, Tiger Woods stated that he had not consumed alcohol that day but admitted to taking several prescription medications.

He also mentioned his complex medical history, including seven back surgeries and more than 20 foot surgeries.

After his arrest, officers found two hydrocodone pills, a prescription opioid for pain, in Woods' pants pocket.

Legal Proceedings and DUI Charges

For the incident, Tiger Woods was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) with property damage and refusal to submit to a valid test.

Refusing to submit to a breath, blood, or urine test is now a misdemeanor in Florida following a change in law.

Woods himself underwent a breath test that showed "zero alcohol" in his system, but he refused to provide a urine sample to test for the presence of drugs.

Following his arrest, Woods was held in the Martin County Jail for eight hours, in accordance with Florida law, before being released on $1,150 bail.

Woods' attorney then entered a not guilty plea to the DUI charge and requested a jury trial.

He also waived his appearance at all pre-trial hearings.

Tiger Woods' arraignment is scheduled for April 23, 2026.

Official Statement from Tiger Woods

In response to this incident, Tiger Woods released a public statement on social media (X) on March 31, 2026, announcing that he would be “temporarily withdrawing to seek treatment and focus on his health.”

This statement effectively cast serious doubt on Tiger Woods' participation in the 2026 Masters, which began on April 9.

Augusta National Golf Club has confirmed that Woods will not play in this year's Masters and expressed their full support for Woods.
