Liputan6.com, Jakarta North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reaffirmed his country’s “unconditional support” for Russia’s actions in Ukraine during high-level talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The meeting, held in the eastern city of Wonsan, marks a significant strengthening of ties as both nations face mounting pressure from the West.
Kim stated that North Korea is prepared to “unconditionally support and promote all measures initiated by the Russian leadership regarding the resolution of the fundamental issues surrounding the Ukrainian crisis.”

The talks took place during Lavrov’s three-day visit to North Korea, where both sides emphasized their commitment to a partnership agreement signed last year, which includes a mutual defense arrangement.
Military and Economy Partnership Expands
North Korea has already sent thousands of troops and military equipment to Russia, with recent intelligence suggesting that as many as 30,000 additional North Korean soldiers could be deployed to support Russian operations in Ukraine.
In addition to combat troops, North Korea is dispatching thousands of military construction workers and deminers to help with reconstruction in Russia’s war-affected Kursk region.
The two nations have also pledged to enhance economic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges, with joint projects in logistics, education, and tourism underway.

Russia has warned against the formation of security alliances targeting North Korea, emphasizing that their partnership is a response to what they view as Western aggression.
The renewed partnership between North Korea and Russia is expected to have significant implications for the regional and global security landscape.
Both nations appear determined to sustain and expand their cooperation in the face of international sanctions and diplomatic isolation, positioning themselves as strategic allies against Western influence.
