Stranger Than Heaven: RGG Studio's New Yakuza Prequel with Snoop Dogg

Previously known as "Project Century," the game was officially announced at Summer Game Fest 2025 and is set for release in Winter 2026.

"Stranger Than Heaven" will serve as an origin story for the iconic Yakuza series, specifically chronicling the foundation of the Tojo Clan.

The game will take players across five Japanese cities and five different time periods, spanning from 1915 to 1965.

With a star-studded cast, including Yu Shirota as protagonist Makoto Daito and Snoop Dogg as international smuggler Orpheus, the game is set to offer a rich narrative.

In addition to its captivating storyline, "Stranger Than Heaven" also introduces an innovative combat system and unique musical elements.

The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC via Steam.

The main protagonist of "Stranger Than Heaven" is Makoto Daito, a young man of mixed Japanese and American descent.

His story begins in 1915 in San Francisco, where he decides to sail to Japan.

Makoto seeks self-acceptance and escapes the prejudice he faces in America due to his Asian heritage.

Throughout his 50-year journey, Makoto will encounter various important characters who shape his destiny.

One of them is Yu Shinjo, described as his "oldest friend and greatest rival."

The interactions between Makoto and Yu Shinjo will be the core of the game's character development.

Interestingly, the game also features an appearance by music icon and actor, Snoop Dogg, who plays the character Orpheus, an international smuggler who will play a crucial role in Makoto's narrative.

"Stranger Than Heaven" is an action-adventure game that promises a fresh gameplay experience.

Players can control the left and right sides of Makoto's body independently, allowing for dynamic combinations of attacks and defenses.

This system allows players to perform actions such as blocking with one hand while attacking with the other, or grabbing an opponent and delivering a punch.

Additionally, Makoto can wield a variety of weapons such as swords, hammers, and knives, all of which can be upgraded.

Surprisingly, the game also places a significant emphasis on musical elements.
