It is the first game in the main series to adopt the “HD-2D” visual style, an approach that blends classic pixel art with high-definition graphics.
Developed by Square Enix and Lancarse Ltd., with Square Enix as publisher, the game draws inspiration from the first season of the mobile game Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius.
However, Final Fantasy Resonance is not simply a port or a direct remake; it has been extensively rebuilt and reimagined to offer a comprehensive console-quality RPG experience.
HD-2D Visual Style and Strategic Battle Mechanics
Final Fantasy Resonance's "HD-2D" visual style creates a unique blend of retro pixel art and modern graphics, features pixelated 3D models enhanced by dynamic camera angles.
The special abilities of classic Final Fantasy heroes and certain summon sequences are rendered in striking 3D graphics, providing a nostalgic yet fresh feel.
Gameplay harkens back to the series' roots with a traditional turn-based battle system, distinct from the more modern Active Time Battle (ATB) system.
This strategic battle system allows players to exploit enemy weaknesses to stagger them, granting extra turns, and unleash powerful Resonance attacks.
Players control a party of four characters, each of which can equip "Visions."
"Visions" are phantom resonances of warriors from the past, present, or other universes that grant additional abilities and can be leveled up separately.
Additionally, characters can perform limit bursts, powerful abilities with special properties similar to the limit breaks known in the Final Fantasy series.

An Epic Adventure in the World of Lapis
Final Fantasy Resonance's story is set in the world of Lapis, where players will follow the journey of Rain, a knight from the Kingdom of Grandshelt.
Along with his adopted brother, Lasswell, and a mysterious girl named Fina, Rain is tasked with stopping Veritas of the Dark, who threatens the world's crystals.
Rain is portrayed as the main protagonist, a skilled airship squadron commander, but with complicated feelings for his father, Raegen, who disappeared without a trace.
In addition to the main storyline, the game features a new, freely explorable overworld, Chocobos, and airships.
There are also optional dungeons that allow players to unlock Espers, powerful entities that Fina can summon in battle.
The roster of recruitable “Visions” includes classic characters from various Final Fantasy titles, such as the Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy I), Terra (Final Fantasy VI), Cloud (Final Fantasy VII), Zidane (Final Fantasy IX), Shantotto (Final Fantasy XI), Y'shtola (Final Fantasy XIV), and Clive.
New Music and Edition Options
The Final Fantasy Resonance soundtrack was composed and arranged by Elements Garden, under the direction of Noriyasu Agematsu.
In addition to the familiar music from Brave Exvius, the game will include 33 new songs created specifically for this experience.
The game will be available in several editions.
The standard edition will retail for US$49.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition, available for US$59.99, includes the base game and useful in-game items.
For collectors, the Collector's Edition is offered for US$209.99, which includes the base game, a bonus Digital Deluxe Edition, as well as four unique physical items such as an artbook, a soundtrack (4 CDs with 120 songs), and an exclusive Final Fantasy Trading Card Game promotional card.
