Liputan6.com, Jakarta - If you love drawing animals, you should try and learn how to draw a giraffe. Giraffes have a truly unique look, with their long necks, tall legs, and spotted coats, and they are one of the most recognizable animals in the world. Whether you are a beginner or someone who draws regularly, a giraffe is a great subject to practice with.
Giraffes are special animals. They are the tallest land animals on Earth, and their body proportions are unlike any other creature. This makes them both a fun and a challenging subject to draw. Their long neck alone takes up a large part of the body, and getting the shape right teaches you a lot about proportion and balance in drawing.
In this article, we will share three simple guides on how to draw a giraffe. From the simple, realistic drawing to an easy cartoon version for kids, you will learn several ways to draw this unique animal at home. We gathered the information from various sources, Monday (13/4/2026).

How to Draw a Simple Realistic Giraffe
Step 1: Draw the Body Shape
Draw a large oval in the center of your paper, tilted so the left side sits slightly higher than the right. This is the giraffe's main body.
Step 2: Add the Neck
From the upper left of the oval, draw two long, gently curved lines going upward. They should be slightly wider at the base and narrow toward the top. The neck should be two to three times the length of the body oval.
Step 3: Draw the Head
At the top of the neck, draw a small rounded rectangle, wider at the front and narrower at the back. Keep the head much smaller than the body.
Step 4: Add the Face Details
Draw two small bumps on top of the head for the ossicones, a small circle on the side for the eye with a short curved line above it for the eyelid, and a small oval near the front of the snout for the nostril. Add a short curved line below the nostril for the mouth.
Step 5: Draw the Legs
From the bottom of the body, draw four long, straight legs, narrow at the bottom and slightly wider where they meet the body. Add a small rounded hoof at the base of each leg.
Step 6: Add the Tail
On the right side of the body, draw a short, thin tail curving slightly downward. At the tip, draw a few short lines fanning outward to show a small tuft of hair.
Step 7: Draw the Mane
Along the top of the neck, draw a row of short, stiff lines running from the base of the head down to the body. These represent the giraffe's rough, upright mane.
Step 8: Add the Spots
Draw large, irregular polygon shapes across the neck, body, and upper legs. Leave small gaps between each spot to show the lighter skin color underneath. Keep the shapes uneven, as real giraffe spots are never perfectly round or uniform.
Step 9: Refine and Shade
Clean up any rough lines, then add light shading inside the spots and along the underside of the belly and legs to create depth and shadow.

How to Draw a Cartoon Giraffe for Kids
Step 1: Draw a Big Circle for the Body
Draw a large circle in the lower middle of your paper. Leave plenty of space above it for the neck and head, and below it for the legs.
Step 2: Draw a Smaller Circle for the Head
In the upper left area of your paper, draw a circle about one quarter the size of the body. Leave a gap between the two circles for the neck.
Step 3: Connect the Head and Body with a Long Neck
Draw two smooth curved lines linking the bottom of the head circle to the top of the body circle. Let the left line curve gently outward, while the right line stays fairly straight.
Step 4: Draw the Ears
On each side of the head, draw a rounded leaf shape pointing outward, placed just below the top of the head circle. Make both ears the same size.
Step 5: Add the Ossicones and Eyes
On top of the head, draw two short upside-down U shapes for the ossicones. On the front of the head, draw two large circles for the eyes. Inside each, add a smaller circle, then a solid dot for the pupil, and a tiny white dot for shine.
Step 6: Draw the Mouth and Nose
Below the eyes, draw a wide U shape for a smiling mouth. Just above it, draw a small oval for the nose with two tiny dots inside for the nostrils.
Step 7: Add Four Short, Stubby Legs
From the bottom of the body circle, draw four thick, rounded legs. Keep them short and wide for a cute, cartoon look. Add a small rounded oval hoof at the base of each one.
Step 8: Draw a Small Tail
On the right side of the body, draw a short wavy line for the tail with a small oval tuft at the end.
Step 9: Add Spots and Color
Draw several large, rounded spots on the body, neck, and tops of the legs. Color the body yellow or orange, the spots brown or dark orange, and use a slightly darker shade for the hooves, ossicones, and inner ears.
How to Draw an Easy Giraffe Face
Step 1: Draw the Basic Head Shape
Draw a long, rounded rectangle in the center of your paper, slightly wider at the bottom and narrower at the top. Round all the corners so the shape looks soft rather than boxy.
Step 2: Add the Top of the Head
Above the top edge of the rectangle, draw a wide, gently curved line to form the upper skull. This area should feel broader and rounder than the snout below.
Step 3: Draw the Ossicones
From the top of the head, draw two short, rounded horn shapes spaced slightly apart, one leaning left and one leaning right. Each should end in a small, blunt tip.
Step 4: Add the Ears
Just below the ossicones on each side, draw a medium-sized pointed oval angling slightly outward, as if the giraffe is listening to something on either side.
Step 5: Place the Eyes
About halfway down the head, draw one almond-shaped eye on each side, wider in the middle and pointed at both ends. Inside each eye, draw a large round pupil, and add a short curved eyelid line above it with a few short lash marks.
Step 6: Draw the Nostrils and Mouth
At the bottom of the snout, draw two large oval nostrils sitting side by side. Below them, draw a short, gentle curved line for the mouth, angled slightly upward to give the giraffe a calm, friendly expression.
Step 7: Add the Mane Along the Top
Between the ossicones and running down the back of the head, draw a row of short, upright lines packed closely together. Keep them roughly the same height for a neat, bristle-like mane.
Step 8: Draw the Spots on the Face
Across the forehead and the sides of the snout, draw four to six large, irregular patch shapes. Keep them uneven and varied in size, similar to the spots you would find on the body.
Step 9: Add Shading and Final Details
Lightly shade the inside of the ears, the area around the nostrils, and the outer edges of the face. Darken the pupils and add a small white highlight dot in each eye to make the giraffe face drawing feel finished and full of life.
