Godzilla Minus Zero Releases First Teaser, New Global Threat to the King of the Monsters

Godzilla Minus Zero promises greater and global terror with the release of its first teaser which has just arrived.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - One of the most iconic Japanese franchise, Godzilla Minus Zero, has released its first look teaser in April 15, 2026.

The film, a direct sequel to the Oscar-winning 'Godzilla Minus One,' promises even greater scale and intensity of destruction.

The film's first teaser has been officially released, sparking high anticipation, showcasing the King of the Monsters now threatening not only Japan but also global icons like the Statue of Liberty in New York.

Directed, written, and supervised by Takashi Yamazaki, the man behind the success of the previous film, 'Godzilla Minus Zero' is set to take audiences back to the story of the Shikishima family as they face a new disaster.

Set two years after the traumatic events of 'Godzilla Minus One,' the film will explore the continuing story of the survivors, now faced with the threat of a regenerated and even more ferocious Godzilla.

First Teaser Reveals Godzilla's Global Threat

The first teaser trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero was released on April 14, 2026, first shown during the GKIDS presentation at CinemaCon Las Vegas before being released online.

The 47-second trailer shows Koichi Shikishima in the cockpit of an airplane flying over the ruins of a destroyed city, while Noriko, her eyes still bandaged, comforts her adopted daughter Akiko.

The tension culminates when Godzilla emerges from the sea to attack the plane, and ends with the iconic image of Godzilla approaching the Statue of Liberty in New York, confirming that this time the terror will extend to the United States.

A Direct Sequel to the Oscar-Winning

Godzilla Minus Zero is officially the direct sequel to 'Godzilla Minus One,' winning the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

The success of the previous film has raised high expectations for this sequel, especially with the return of Takashi Yamazaki as director, writer, and visual effects supervisor.

Toho and ROBOT, two giants of Japanese film production, have once again collaborated to deliver the highest cinematic quality, bolstered by Shirogumi's expertise in creating realistic and thrilling visual effects.

Shooting for the IMAX format promises not only more detailed and spectacular visuals, but also a richer audio experience, ensuring every moment of destruction and suspense is fully experienced by the audience.

A Bigger Godzilla, a New Threat

The story of Godzilla Minus Zero is set in 1949, two years after the horrific events of 'Godzilla Minus One.'

The film continues the struggles of the Shikishima family as they attempt to rebuild a peaceful life, but that peace is short-lived.

Godzilla has regenerated and returned, larger, more ferocious, and ready to bring even more destruction.

In addition to Godzilla's growing threat, plot leaks also hint at the emergence of an ancient, unknown monster awakening near Mount Fuji, adding to the complexity of the conflict.

Koichi Shikishima, played by Ryunosuke Kamiki, initially determined to live a peaceful life, is forced to return to fight alongside the US-Japan allies to confront the two kaiju.

Noriko Oishi's (Minami Hamabe) cellular connection to Godzilla is also rumored to be growing stronger, drawing her closer to the monster's wrath and potentially playing a key role in the film's narrative.

Cast Returns and Release Date

Ryunosuke Kamiki will reprise his role as Koichi Shikishima, a pilot who previously faced Godzilla's terror and must now fight back.

Minami Hamabe will also return as Noriko Oishi, a character who miraculously survived Godzilla's first attack on Tokyo.

Additionally, Munetaka Aoki will return as Sosaku Tachibana, and Miou Tanaka as Captain Tatsuo Hotta, completing the lineup of key cast members who will face the dual kaiju threat.

Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled for theatrical release in Japan on November 3, 2026, coinciding with Godzilla Day in Japan.

Just three days later, GKIDS will release the film widely in North American theaters starting November 6, 2026.

This close-together release window between Japan and North America marks the fastest time for a Japanese Godzilla film to reach the American market, demonstrating Toho and GKIDS's global ambition for the film.
