CBS has confirmed the renewal of Matlock for a third season, which is welcome news for loyal viewers.

While some initial reports suggested a premiere in early 2027 or during the 2026-2027 broadcast season, the most likely date is midseason 2027.

A midseason premiere means the series will not return to its usual fall schedule, but will likely premiere in January 2027.

This decision aligns with other CBS programming schedule changes, such as “Ghosts” and “NCIS: Sydney,” which were also moved to midseason 2027.

The delay of Matlock’s third season until 2027 was due to a request from showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman.

“I feel lucky that the network’s giving us time to get it right because I don’t want the quality to drop. The quality is everything to me," the showrunner said.
