Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Costco, the retail giant known for its great value offerings, is back in the spotlight with a significant change to its iconic food court menu.
For the first time in over 40 years, the legendary $1.50 hot dog combo now offers a new drink option that will surprise loyal customers.
Starting in April 2026, Costco members who purchase the $1.50 hot dog combo will no longer be limited to soda.

Consistent Price, Costco's Long-Term Commitment
Despite the change in drink options, the price of Costco's famous hot dog combo remains at $1.50.
This commitment has been repeatedly reiterated by Costco CEO Ron Vachris, who stated in March 2026 that hot dog prices would remain unchanged during his tenure.
The $1.50 price for a hot dog combo has remained constant since its introduction in 1984 or 1985, making it one of the most stable offerings amidst economic turmoil.
Adjusted for inflation from 1985 to 2026, the combo should cost around $4.28 to $4.52 in 2026.
Costco maintains this low price as a "loss leader" and an integral part of its brand identity, even producing its own hot dogs to control costs.

Membership Verification and Beverage Shifts
In addition to the beverage changes, Costco has also implemented a membership verification policy in its food courts since early 2026, requires customers to present a valid membership card before purchasing food.
Another change also happens in Costco's food courts is a change in beverage offerings.
In late 2025 and early 2026, Costco completed the transition from Pepsi products back to the Coca-Cola brand.
This move marked the return of a long-standing beverage partnership, following the switch to Pepsi in 2013 as a cost-saving measure to maintain the price of hot dog combos.
Customer Reactions to New Water Options
The new option to swap soda for Kirkland Signature water has sparked mixed reactions among Costco customers.
Some consumers welcomed the perceived healthier option or the convenience of resealable bottles, but many also expressed concerns about the potential increase in plastic waste from bottled water.
Furthermore, there was debate over perceived value, given that Kirkland Signature water bottles are often cheaper when purchased separately, with some even claiming the price of bottled water at Costco vending machines is as little as 25 cents.
Some customers also compared the non-refillable bottled water option to soda, which offers free refills.
