Netflix has officially confirmed that Grown Ups 3 is in development, marking the return of one of Adam Sandler's most popular comedy franchises after more than a decade since the second film premiered.

The announcement came during Netflix's Upfront 2026 presentation, where the streaming giant revealed plans to reunite Sandler with the chaotic world of childhood friends, family antics, and nostalgic humor that made the first two films such box office successes.

While rumors have circulated that the franchise's main actors beside Sandler such as Chris Rock, Spade, James, and Rob Schneider will return, the streaming service has yet to confirm any casting news.

Adam Sandler is expected to reprise his role as Lenny Feder while also co-writing the screenplay alongside longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy.

Unlike the first two Grown Ups films, which were directed by Dennis Dugan, the third installment will reportedly be helmed by Kyle Newacheck, known for his work on Happy Gilmore 2, Murder Mystery, and Game Over, Man!.

Producers attached to the project include Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Tim Herlihy, and Jack Giarraputo, with Kevin Grady and Judit Maull serving as executive producers.

The upcoming film marks the next project in Sandler's decade-long partnership with Netflix. Under his deal with the streaming service, which has been renewed several times, Sandler has directed films like "Leo," "Murder Mystery," and "Hubie Halloween," as well as sequels to his classics like "Happy Gilmore 2."

The original Grown Ups (2010) followed a group of lifelong friends reconnecting after the death of their childhood basketball coach, while Grown Ups 2 (2013) focused on family life and returning to their hometown.

Both movies performed strongly with audiences despite mixed critical reception.

Even so,  the original “Grown Ups” came out in 2010 and earned $271 million at the global box office, becoming Sandler’s highest-grossing movie outside of the animated “Hotel Transylvania” franchise.

The 2013 sequel “Grown Ups 2” wasn’t far behind, with $247 million worldwide.

According to Netflix, Grown Ups 3 isn't the first Sandler classic to get a sequel: Happy Gilmore 2 premieres in July 2025, nearly 20 years after the original.

In April, Sandler's Happy Madison produced Roommates.
