Instagram's New Feature: Resharing Public Stories Is Easier, Here's How to Access

Wondering how to reshare public stories without being tagged? Instagram now has a reshare feature similar to Retweet X, increasing user reach.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Instagram has introduced another innovation with the launch of the public story reshare feature that allows users to reshare stories from any public account directly to their own stories.

This feature will begin rolling out globally for iOS and Android devices in December 2025.

Previously, resharing stories on Instagram was limited to only tagging the user in the original post.

This limitation often forced users to take screenshots or screen recordings, resulting in reduced visual quality and the loss of proper attribution to the content creator.

With this new feature, Instagram aims to simplify content circulation and increase engagement across the platform.

It also brings Instagram's sharing mechanism closer to the "Retweet" function on Twitter (formerly Twitter) and the "Share" function on TikTok.

How to Access the Resharing Stories on Instagram

This recent Instagram feature is designed to make sharing content incredibly easy for users.

Users can now reshare stories from any public account without needing to be tagged by the original story creator, a significant change from the previous mechanism.

When users view a story from a public account, they will find the "Add to your story" option located next to the other sharing options.

Simply tapping on it will take the story directly to the user's story creator.

In fact, users have the freedom to add a variety of creative elements, like insert text, stickers, GIFs, or other elements as desired, just as when creating their own story.

These reshared stories will automatically display the original creator's username and link back to their profile.

Limitations and Privacy Controls

Despite its convenience, the Instagram story reshare feature still comes with strict limitations and privacy controls.

It's important to note that this reshare feature only applies to stories from public accounts and stories posted by private accounts will not be reshareable by others.

Creators with public profiles are also given full control over this feature.

They have the option to disable the "Allow Sharing to Story" setting through the Instagram app's privacy menu, gives creators the flexibility to decide whether their stories can be reshared.

If the "Allow Sharing to Story" option is disabled, viewers will still be able to view the story as usual but they will not have the option to reshare it to their own stories.

Other Innovations from Instagram in 2025

The public story reshare feature isn't the only innovation Instagram introduced in 2025.

The platform has also introduced a series of other significant updates to improve the user experience.

One of these is the "Friends" feature in Reels, which allows users to see Reels that their friends have liked, commented on, or reshared.

The improvements to the AI-powered auto-caption feature for Stories are also worth highlighting, now available in over 100 languages.

Additionally, Link Stickers received an update with better click analytics and customization options.

Instagram also introduced a Collaborative Stories Campaign feature for brands and influencers, strengthening the marketing ecosystem.

Story Highlights were also enhanced with AI-powered automatic grouping and categorization, making it easier for users to browse content.

The Reels duration limit was extended to three minutes.

The option for public comments on Stories, a "Storyline" feature for story collaborations, and a "Trial Reels" feature for testing content without followers' eyes have also been launched.
